Hotel Attendant

Brief outline of what the position will be doing aboard, and the impact they will have. This will be an outward facing description, and will be used for LinkedIn, websites and other marketing avenues.

Set sail on a new career with Carnival and help us bring the FUN to life aboard one of our fantastic vessels! We’re looking for dedicated individuals to join us a Hotel Attendant!

This role will see you working on the front-line roles, which helps keep our vessels clean and looking their best, so our guests can focus on having a great vacation experience in their home away from home!

You’ll be working all around our vessel maintaining the highest levels of ship cleanliness. As with all of our team members, you’ll be a highly visible member of the team, and will constantly interact with our guests and helping them with questions. The vacation experience we promise our guests will start with you!

  • Maintenance and cleaning of public areas (such as spa, saunas, steam rooms, dining rooms, restrooms, lounges, etc.), open decks (such as restaurants, pools, whirlpools etc.), crew areas (such as crew restrooms, Medical Center, staff/officer cabins, etc.)
  • Report all repairs to be made in assigned section, especially safety related issues and follow-up with management as necessary.
  • Correct usage, storage and labelling of all chemicals and other applicable equipment.
  • Use cleaning machines and cleaning equipment under the guidance of management, maintain and as designated by immediate supervisor.
  • Coverage of stateroom services as required as part of ongoing training.
  • Ensure staff/officer cabins and bathrooms are cleaned as per company’s standards.
  • Ensure hallway/corridor and lockers are kept clean and tidy at all times.
  • Ensure carpets in cabins where applicable and hallways/corridors are kept clean through daily spotting.
  • Ensure staff/officer uniforms and promptly delivered and accounted
  • Adhere to the company’s standards regarding dress and appearance (Carnival Look Book).
  • Extend appropriate greeting to all guests and crew at every opportunity using their names.
  • Apply hospitality standards at all times in guest and crew areas.
  • Advise any guest challenges immediately to Housekeeping Management.
  • Follow all safety regulations during the course of duty
  • Adhere to CCL environmental towel hanger policy.
  • Coverage of stateroom services as required as part of on-going training
  • Assist with luggage delivery and related duties as instructed.
  • During dry docks/wet docks schedules may be altered to include the coverage of stateroom cleaning and services and or special assignments related to the circumstances.
  • Follow all environmental, USPH and HESS MS procedures as applicable for position.
  • Follow Time and Attendance policy.

Fluency in conversational English, hospitable, positive attitude, motivated.

  • Well groomed, follows proper hygienic practices.
  • Must be physically strong and able to lift a minimum of 60 lbs to sustain physically challenging work.

Must understand potential for career growth

Waiter

Provide guests with courteous and professional service and create a pleasant dining atmosphere to enhance overall experience and to anticipate guests needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain clean and orderly tables and organizes stations. o Prepare a good mice-en-place to ensure that his/her station is ready when guests arrive.
  • Stand by the table, ready to pull the chair for the ladies when guests arrive and depart. o Provide personalized service.
  • Ensures that guests requests, beverages, condiments, etc… are promptly fulfilled. o Responsible for the cleanliness, maintenance and upkeep of all equipment and any other ship’s property that he /she is working with.
  • Responsibly minded for the breakage and loss of any equipment. o Use only ship’s authorized chemicals in the way and manner they’ve been instructed to.
  • Respect his/ her Supervisors, address him/her with the due titles, accept order without questioning and co-operate unselfishly, and be a Team-worker. o Attend departmental meetings and trainings when requested.
  • Personal hygiene and appearance o Always wear clean and ironed uniform / name tag.
  • Wear clean and polished shoes
  • Take a shower before the commencement of one’s shift o Have trimmed and neat haircut for men and moderate coiffure for women o           Have at all times short and clean fingernails / for female only light nail polish permitted.
  • Be always neat / well groomed and shaved – Avoid or use little make-up. o Only delicate / appropriate jewelry to be worn oPerform all duties other than above as requested by the Restaurant Manager or Head Waiter.

Head Waiter

Directly supervises, trains and monitors the performance of the subordinate F&B positions assigned to his/ her work station – Waiter / Waitress and Assistant Waiter / Waitress.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensures that all tables within his/ her section are set on time with the appropriate china, silverware, glassware and linen.
  • Assist subordinate staff in setting tables in cases of time constraints or temporary personnel shortages.

Mentors, develops and provides on-the-job training to new recruits in order to improve their current performance allowing them to gain skills and abilities for future advancement.

  • Responsible for notifying the Restaurant Manager/ Maitre D’ of any cases of disciplinary actions or poor performance.
  • Would escort passengers to their tables, present them the menus and suggest particular courses and wines and would kindly answer to any questions they may have regarding menu items and wine list.
  • Constantly observes his assigned assigned area for demanding or “difficult” passengers and works in a positive and polite manner to resolve problems.
  • Ensures that the highest quality of food and service are offered to passengers all the time.
  • Supervises dining room entertainment according to established practices of the cruise line and alterations based on the specific itinerary – Pirate nights, Caribbean nights, Italian nights etc.
  • Participate in rotational schedule, supervising various food outlet venues around the cruise ship – main dining room(s), 24-hour buffet or specialty restaurants.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum two-tree years of restaurant managerial experience as a Head Waiter.
  • Formal hospitality training and previous cruise ship experience are preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Excellent communication skills and good command of the English language, knowledge of additional languages is a plus.
  • Strong managerial skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
